Naming a baby is one of the more paralyzing blank-page problems out there — too many options, no obvious starting point. Our Baby Name Generator gives you a random, curated starting point instead of an endless scroll through someone else’s ranked list.
Three separate lists, not one merged pool
Rather than one giant list you filter down, the tool keeps three genuinely separate curated lists: names commonly used for girls, names commonly used for boys, and a distinct list of names commonly used across genders. Picking “unisex names” gives you specifically gender-neutral options, rather than a mixed bag that happens to include some names from each category.
The starting-letter filter
Type a single letter, and the tool filters whichever list you’ve selected down to names that begin with it, then randomly picks up to 10 from what remains. If very few names in a category start with your chosen letter, you’ll simply see fewer than 10 results — the tool doesn’t pad the list out with near-misses.
Where the names come from
These lists are curated based on names that have been consistently popular in recent years — not pulled from a live, constantly-updating birth-record database. That means the selection is a solid brainstorming starting point, not an exhaustive or up-to-the-second popularity ranking. If you want official government statistics, this tool is meant to complement that research, not replace it.
Regenerate as many times as you like
Each click of “Generate 10 names” (or switching the gender style) produces a fresh random sample from the same underlying list — there’s no limit on how many times you can re-roll while brainstorming.
