“What day of the week was that?” comes up more often than you’d expect — confirming a wedding anniversary, checking whether a historical event landed on a weekend, or figuring out if a future deadline falls on a Saturday. The Day of the Week Calculator answers instantly, with no math required.
How it works
Pick any date and the tool immediately shows:
- The day of the week it falls on (Sunday through Saturday)
- Day of year — its sequential position (1 to 365 or 366)
- Leap year status for that year
- Approximate week number
- Whether it’s a weekend
Why dates don’t always land where you expect
A date’s weekday shifts by roughly one day each year (two after a leap year), because 365 isn’t evenly divisible by 7. That’s why your birthday falls on a different weekday almost every year, and why calculating this mentally for dates more than a few years away gets error-prone fast.
Built for accuracy across time zones
The tool deliberately computes using UTC internally rather than your browser’s local time zone. This avoids a subtle but common bug: if a date picker’s midnight value gets interpreted in local time, it can silently shift to the previous or next calendar day depending on where you are in the world. A calendar date’s day-of-week shouldn’t depend on your location — and this tool makes sure it doesn’t.
