Ovulation Calculator: Estimate Your Fertile Window

Estimate your ovulation day, fertile window, and next expected period from your last menstrual period date and average cycle length. Free, client-side.

WebdevToolbox Team

Our ovulation calculator estimates your most likely ovulation day and fertile window from two simple inputs: the first day of your last period, and your average cycle length.

The math behind it

Cycle length varies a lot between individuals (and month to month), but the luteal phase — the time between ovulation and the start of your next period — is fairly consistent at around 14 days for most people. That means ovulation can be estimated by working backward from your next expected period:

Ovulation day = LMP date + (cycle length − 14 days)
Next period = LMP date + cycle length

Why the fertile window spans 6 days

Sperm can survive in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days, while a released egg is typically viable for only about 24 hours. That’s why the fertile window is estimated as roughly 5 days before ovulation through 1 day after — covering the full range of days when intercourse could realistically lead to conception.

Example

A last period starting January 1 with a 28-day cycle gives an estimated ovulation day of January 15, a fertile window of January 10–16, and a next expected period around January 29.

Know the limits

This is a general estimate based on average cycle math — it assumes a consistent cycle length, which not everyone has. If your cycles vary significantly, or you’re actively trying to conceive or avoid pregnancy, this tool isn’t a substitute for basal body temperature tracking, ovulation predictor kits, or guidance from a healthcare provider.
