Ring Size Calculator: Converting Between US, UK, and EU Sizing

Convert a finger circumference or ring inner diameter measurement (in mm) into US, UK/AU, and EU ring sizes using a standard sizing reference table. Free, client-side.

Buying a ring internationally — or just cross-checking a jeweler’s size chart against a different region’s numbering — runs into a real problem: ring sizing systems don’t share a common scale. Our ring size calculator converts between US, UK/AU, and EU sizes from a single measurement.

How to measure at home

Wrap a strip of paper or string snugly around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, then measure that length in millimeters with a ruler. That’s your finger circumference — enter it directly into the calculator.

Alternatively, if you have a ring that already fits well, measure its inner diameter (straight across the opening) instead, and select the diameter option — since diameter = circumference ÷ π, using the wrong measurement type would give an incorrect conversion.

Example

A 54mm finger circumference (≈17.2mm diameter) converts to US size 7, UK/AU size N, and EU size 54.4 — a fairly common adult ring size.

Why three completely different numbering systems exist

Each region historically developed its own convention. The US/Canada system uses a numeric half-size scale; the UK/Australia system uses letters (A through Z and beyond); most of continental Europe measures the actual inner circumference in millimeters directly as the “size” number. None of these map to each other with a simple linear formula, which is why a reference conversion table (rather than a formula) is the standard way to convert between them.

Why your actual size might differ slightly

Ring width, metal type, and finger shape all affect fit — wider band styles typically need a slightly larger size than thin bands for the same finger, and finger size itself fluctuates with temperature, time of day, and swelling. For an important purchase like an engagement ring, getting professionally sized in person at a jeweler remains the most reliable method.
