Frequently Asked Questions
How does this handle arrays that changed order but not content?
Arrays are compared as whole JSON values at their path, not element-by-element, so a reordered array shows up as a single "changed" line rather than a detailed per-item diff.
What do the +, -, and ~ symbols mean?
+ means a key exists in Response B but not A (added), - means it exists in A but not B (removed), and ~ means the key exists in both but the value differs (changed).
Does key order affect the diff?
No. Objects are compared by the union of their keys regardless of the order those keys appear in the source JSON.
Can I compare non-JSON text with this?
No — both sides must be valid JSON. If either side fails to parse, the tool tells you specifically which one (Response A or Response B) and shows the parse error.
Is this useful for comparing staging vs production API responses?
Yes, that's the primary use case: paste a response from one environment on each side to catch unexpected schema or value drift before it reaches users.
