EXIF Metadata Viewer
NewRead the EXIF metadata embedded in a JPEG photo — camera, exposure, timestamp, and GPS tags — entirely in your browser.
…or drag and drop a JPEG here. The file never leaves your browser.
Only JPEG files with an embedded APP1/EXIF segment carry this metadata — PNG, WebP, and re-saved/screenshot images usually have it stripped. This parses the standard IFD0, Exif sub-IFD, and GPS IFD tag set; it does not decode maker-specific proprietary tags.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does it say "No EXIF segment found" for some images?
Not every JPEG carries EXIF data. PNG and WebP files never use this format at all, and many JPEGs — especially screenshots, images re-saved by messaging apps, or ones already scrubbed by a privacy tool — have had their EXIF (APP1) segment stripped entirely.
Does this decode GPS coordinates if they're present?
Yes, if the file has a GPS IFD — it reads the raw GPSLatitude/GPSLongitude tags (and their N/S/E/W reference tags) as they're stored, though it shows the raw degree/minute/second rational values rather than converting them into a single decimal-degree number.
Is my photo uploaded to a server to read its metadata?
No — the file is read with `arrayBuffer()` and the EXIF/APP1 binary segment is parsed manually in JavaScript. The image and its metadata never leave your browser.
Does it support maker-specific tags from my camera brand?
No — it decodes the standard IFD0, Exif sub-IFD, and GPS IFD tag sets defined by the EXIF specification. Proprietary/manufacturer-specific "MakerNote" data (used for brand-specific extras) is not parsed.
Why would I want to check this before sharing a photo?
EXIF GPS tags can reveal exactly where a photo was taken, and camera/timestamp data can reveal device and timing details you may not want to share publicly — checking here first lets you decide whether to strip that metadata before posting an image online.
