Frequently Asked Questions

Is the generated file compatible with Google Calendar, Outlook, and Apple Calendar?

Yes — it follows the RFC 5545 iCalendar format with a standard VCALENDAR/VEVENT structure, including required fields like UID, DTSTAMP, DTSTART, and DTEND, which all major calendar apps can import.

Why are the times converted to UTC in the output?

Using UTC timestamps (with a trailing Z) avoids ambiguity about which timezone a floating local time refers to, ensuring the event shows at the correct absolute moment regardless of the importing calendar app's configured timezone. The timezone label you enter is included as a COMMENT for reference.

What is "line folding" and why does the output wrap some lines?

RFC 5545 requires that no line in an .ics file exceed 75 octets; longer lines must be split with a CRLF followed by a single leading space, which is what the tool does automatically for long titles or descriptions.

How is the UID generated, and does it need to be unique?

Yes, each event needs a globally unique UID — this tool generates one from the current timestamp plus a random string, formatted as an email-like identifier, which stays stable as you edit the form so re-downloading gives you the same UID.

Can I add a location or is that optional?

Location is optional — if left blank, the LOCATION line is omitted entirely from the output rather than being written as an empty field, keeping the file clean.
