Frequently Asked Questions

Does this use real tabs for recipe lines, or just spaces?

Real tabs. The generator explicitly prefixes each command line with a literal tab character when it builds the Makefile output.

How do I enter prerequisites for a target?

Type them as a comma-separated list in the prerequisites field. The generator trims them and rewrites them as the space-separated dependency list after the colon.

What happens to blank targets or empty command lines?

Targets with no name are dropped from the final file, and empty command lines inside a target are skipped. That keeps the generated Makefile cleaner than the raw form state.

Why is there a .PHONY line at the top?

The tool automatically adds every non-empty target name to .PHONY. It does not try to guess which targets are file-producing versus purely command targets.

Can I use this for variables, pattern rules, or advanced make features?

Not directly. This builder only models named targets, optional prerequisites, and one-command-per-line recipes.
