Frequently Asked Questions

How does the shuffle work?

The 16 cards (8 symbols, each appearing twice) are shuffled using the Fisher-Yates algorithm, which guarantees every possible arrangement is equally likely — unlike naive shuffling methods (like sorting by Math.random()) that can produce subtly biased results.

What counts as a "move"?

Flipping two cards counts as one move, regardless of whether they match — this is the standard scoring convention for memory-matching games, so fewer moves for completing all 8 pairs indicates better recall performance.

Why do non-matching cards flip back automatically?

After a short delay (700ms) so you have time to see both cards, non-matching pairs flip face-down again automatically — this is what makes the game require genuine memory rather than just process-of-elimination, since you have to remember what you've already seen in previous turns.

Can I play again with a different arrangement?

Yes — click "New Game" any time to reshuffle all 16 cards into a fresh random arrangement and reset your move counter to zero.
