…or drag and drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP here. The file never leaves your browser.

Redrawing an image onto an HTML canvas and re-exporting it never carries over EXIF camera/GPS data, ICC color profiles, or XMP metadata — this is the same mechanism most messaging apps use to automatically strip location data from shared photos.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this actually remove the metadata?

The image is drawn onto an HTML canvas and re-exported as a new file. Canvas rendering only captures pixel data — it never carries over the original EXIF, GPS, or ICC color profile segments, so the re-exported file is clean by construction, not by selectively deleting fields.

Does this reduce image quality?

For JPEG and WebP output there's a small amount of re-compression (quality is set high, at 0.95), which is usually visually indistinguishable from the original. PNG output is lossless, so there's no quality loss at all.

Why would I want to remove metadata before sharing a photo?

Photos taken on phones often embed the exact GPS coordinates, device model, and timestamp of when they were taken — removing this before posting online prevents that information from being extracted by anyone who downloads the image.

Does the file ever get uploaded anywhere?

No — the entire process (loading, canvas redraw, and re-export) happens locally in your browser using the File and Canvas APIs. Nothing is sent to a server.
