Frequently Asked Questions

How is net worth calculated?

Net worth is simply total assets minus total liabilities — everything you own with monetary value, minus everything you owe. A positive number means your assets outweigh your debts; a negative number means the reverse.

What counts as an asset vs. a liability?

Assets are things you own that have value — cash, investments, retirement accounts, real estate, vehicles. Liabilities are debts you owe — mortgages, car loans, credit card balances, student loans. The same item (like a house) contributes to assets at its market value, while any remaining mortgage on it is tracked separately as a liability.

Can I add or remove rows to match my own situation?

Yes — use "+ Add asset" or "+ Add liability" to add as many custom line items as you need, and simply clear a row's value to exclude it, so the tool adapts to however many accounts, debts, or properties you want to track.

Why track net worth instead of just income or savings account balance?

Net worth gives a complete financial picture that income alone misses — someone with a high income but heavy debt can have a lower net worth than someone with a modest income and no debt. It's a commonly used single metric for tracking overall financial progress over time.
