Frequently Asked Questions
Does this handle decimals and currency amounts?
Yes. Plain decimals are spelled out digit-by-digit after "point" (e.g. 3.14 → "three point one four"), while the currency toggle instead spells the whole and fractional parts as dollars and cents (e.g. 12.50 → "twelve dollars and fifty cents").
How large a number can it handle?
It supports standard short-scale English number names up through trillions (thousand, million, billion, trillion). Numbers larger than that will produce an incomplete or incorrect result, since no larger scale name is defined.
Can I convert words back into a number?
Yes — the Words → Number tab parses a spelled-out number phrase (like "one thousand two hundred thirty four") back into its numeric value, handling hundred/thousand/million-style scale words and optional "and" connectors.
What happens if I type an unrecognized word on the Words → Number tab?
The parser throws a clear error naming the specific unrecognized word, rather than silently skipping it or guessing — so you can quickly spot and fix typos or unsupported words (like ordinals such as "first") in your input.
Does it handle negative numbers?
Yes, on the Number → Words side — a negative input number produces output prefixed with "negative" (e.g. -42 → "negative forty-two"). The Words → Number direction does not currently parse a "negative" prefix back into a negative numeric result.
