Our Battleship game brings the classic pencil-and-paper (and later, plastic peg board) naval strategy game to the browser — no setup, no download, just click to play.
Setting up your fleet
You get the traditional 5-ship set: Carrier (5 cells), Battleship (4 cells), Cruiser (3 cells), Submarine (3 cells), and Destroyer (2 cells) — 17 ship cells total, matching the standard ruleset. Click a cell on Your Fleet grid to place each ship; the game tries a horizontal placement first and falls back to vertical automatically if horizontal doesn’t fit.
Taking turns
Once all 5 ships are placed, click any cell in Enemy Waters to fire. A hit turns red, a miss turns gray. After your shot, the computer fires back at a random unfired cell on your board — no peeking, no advanced targeting logic, just classic turn-based chance and strategy.
Winning
The game ends the moment either fleet is completely sunk — 17 hits wins it. Since ship positions are hidden until fired upon, there’s real strategic value in spreading your early shots to locate ships before committing to a targeted hunt-and-sink pattern.
