Frequently Asked Questions

How do ships get placed?

Click a cell on Your Fleet grid to place the currently highlighted ship — the game automatically tries a horizontal placement first, and falls back to vertical if horizontal doesn't fit at that position (e.g., too close to the grid edge). Place all 5 ships (Carrier, Battleship, Cruiser, Submarine, Destroyer) to start the battle.

How does the computer opponent play?

The computer fires at random unfired cells on your board each turn — it doesn't use advanced targeting logic (like hunting adjacent cells after a hit), making this a straightforward classic version of the game focused on your own placement strategy and firing decisions.

What do the colors on the grid mean?

A red cell means a hit (a ship was there), a gray cell means a miss (empty water), indigo cells on Your Fleet show your own un-hit ships, and plain white cells are unfired/unknown — Enemy Waters never reveals ship locations until you've fired on that cell.

How many ships are in each fleet, and how big are they?

Both fleets use the traditional 5-ship set: Carrier (5 cells), Battleship (4 cells), Cruiser (3 cells), Submarine (3 cells), and Destroyer (2 cells) — 17 total ship cells per side, matching the standard Milton Bradley Battleship ruleset.
