How to Use the HTTP Request Builder — WebdevToolbox Guide

Visually build an HTTP request and see the real response using your browser's fetch().

WebdevToolbox Team3 min read

Sometimes you just need to poke an endpoint and see what comes back — without installing Postman or writing a curl command. This tool builds the request visually and shows you the actual response, headers included.

What Is the HTTP Request Builder?

HTTP Request Builder is one of the tools in WebdevToolbox’s API Tools category. Set the method, URL, headers, and body, hit Send, and see the real HTTP response — status, headers, and body — rendered directly from the browser’s own fetch() call.

How to Use It

  1. Open the tool at /tools/http-request-builder.
  2. Choose a method (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE, HEAD) and enter the URL.
  3. Add headers (one per line, Key: Value) and a request body if needed.
  4. Click Send and review the status, response headers, and body below.

Key Features

  • Real requests, real responses — this isn’t a mock; it’s an actual fetch() call from your browser.
  • Automatic JSON pretty-printing — application/json responses are parsed and formatted.
  • Request timing — see how long the round trip took, in milliseconds.
  • Clear CORS explanations — failures explain that they’re usually the target server’s CORS policy, not a bug.

When to Use the HTTP Request Builder

  • Quick API sanity checks — verify an endpoint responds as expected without a full client.
  • Debugging CORS-friendly APIs — inspect headers and body without opening dev tools manually.
  • Demoing an API to a teammate — show a live request/response without installing anything.

Try It Now

Open HTTP Request Builder directly from anywhere on the site using ⌘K and typing the tool name.
