Love Calculator: A Deterministic Hash, Dressed Up as a Prediction

How our love calculator works under the hood — a fun, order-independent hash of two names — and why it's entertainment, not science.

WebdevToolbox Team

Let’s be upfront about it: our Love Calculator doesn’t predict anything. There’s no relationship science, no astrology, no personality matching happening behind the scenes. It’s a deterministic hash function dressed up in a fun percentage — and we think that’s a perfectly good reason for it to exist.

How it actually works

Enter two names, and the tool combines them (sorted alphabetically, so order never matters), runs the combined string through a simple hash function, and maps the result to a number between 0 and 100. That’s it. The same two names will always produce the exact same percentage, every single time, on any device — because it’s math, not randomness.

Why sort the names first?

If “Alex + Jordan” produced a different result than “Jordan + Alex,” the tool would feel broken — people expect a “compatibility” result to not depend on who happened to type their name into which box first. Sorting both names alphabetically before combining them guarantees the same pair always produces the same output regardless of input order.

Why build something so obviously not “real”?

Not every tool needs to solve a serious problem. Lighthearted, shareable novelty tools — in the same spirit as our zodiac sign calculator, Magic 8-Ball, and moon phase calculator — are some of the most commonly shared pages on any toolbox site, and they’re honest about what they are: a fun deterministic party trick, not a scientific instrument.

Try it yourself: Love Calculator.
