How to Use the Image Palette Extractor — WebdevToolbox Guide

Extract the dominant color palette from any uploaded image, with hex codes and percentage breakdown.

Need the exact colors from a logo, photo, or screenshot without opening an image editor? This tool samples an image’s pixels directly in your browser and surfaces its dominant colors as ready-to-use hex codes.

What Is the Image Palette Extractor?

Upload an image and it downsamples the pixels into a coarse color cube, groups similar colors together, and returns the most frequent color buckets as a palette — each shown with its hex code and the percentage of the image it covers.

How to Use It

  1. Open the tool at /tools/palette-extractor.
  2. Drop in an image or choose one from your device.
  3. Adjust the number of colors you want extracted.
  4. Copy any hex code directly from the swatches.

Key Features

  • Fast pixel-bucket quantization — works well for photos, screenshots, and UI mockups.
  • Configurable palette size from 2 to 12 colors.
  • Percentage coverage shown per color so you know which ones actually dominate.
  • Transparent-pixel aware — doesn’t count a transparent PNG background as a “color.”

When to Use This Tool

  • Building a design system from an existing brand photo or logo.
  • Matching a website’s color scheme to an inspiration image.
  • Quickly checking what colors dominate a screenshot or mockup.

Try It Now

Open Image Palette Extractor directly, or press ⌘K and type the tool name from anywhere on the site.
