How to Use the SQL Minifier — WebdevToolbox Guide

Minify SQL queries by stripping comments and collapsing whitespace, while carefully preserving the exact contents of string literals.

A well-formatted, multi-line SQL query with comments is great for reading and maintaining in a codebase — but when you need to embed that same query as a compact single-line string, paste it into a URL parameter, or just shrink it for a log line, all that formatting turns into wasted characters. This tool strips it down instantly, without touching the query’s actual logic.

What Is the SQL Minifier?

Paste any SQL query, and the tool strips -- line comments and /* ... */ block comments, then collapses every run of whitespace down to a single space — while carefully leaving the exact contents of single-quoted string literals untouched, even if they contain text that looks like a comment.

How to Use It

  1. Open the tool at /tools/sql-minifier.
  2. Paste your SQL query into the left panel.
  3. Read the minified output on the right, along with the character-count savings.
  4. Copy the minified result.

Key Features

  • Safe comment stripping — removes both -- and /* */ comment styles without ever touching text inside string literals.
  • Whitespace collapsing with tidy punctuation spacing around commas and parentheses.
  • Character-count savings display showing exactly how much smaller the minified version is.
  • Dialect-agnostic — works with MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and SQLite syntax alike.

When to Use This Tool

  • Embedding a SQL query as a single-line string in application code or configuration.
  • Reducing SQL query size for logging or URL-based query parameters.
  • Cleaning up comments before sharing a query without needing to manually delete every comment line.

Try It Now

Open SQL Minifier directly, or press ⌘K and type the tool name from anywhere on the site.
