Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from older resets like Eric Meyer's CSS Reset or normalize.css?

Those classic resets targeted browser inconsistencies that have since been mostly resolved; this generator reflects the more modern, minimal approach (popularized by developers like Josh Comeau and Andy Bell) that focuses on a small set of genuinely useful defaults — box-sizing, margin removal, responsive media, and accessible focus styles — rather than resetting dozens of rarely-relevant properties.

Why include an option to respect prefers-reduced-motion?

It's an accessibility best practice: some users experience discomfort or motion sickness from animations, and wrapping a blanket "disable animations" rule in this media query lets your site automatically respect that system-level preference without extra per-component work.

Will this reset make my existing site's styles break?

It can, since removing default margins/padding and changing box-sizing are intentionally impactful changes — it's best applied at the very start of a new project's stylesheet, rather than dropped into an existing site that already has other CSS relying on browser defaults.

Why does the focus-visible rule use `outline: 2px solid currentColor` instead of removing focus outlines entirely?

Removing focus outlines without replacing them is a common and serious accessibility mistake for keyboard users — this rule intentionally keeps a visible, consistent focus indicator (using `:focus-visible` so it only shows for keyboard/assistive-technology focus, not every mouse click) rather than the browser's inconsistent default outline styles.

Can I pick only some of the rule groups instead of the full reset?

Yes — each rule group has its own checkbox, so you can toggle off anything you don't want (for example, skip the anchor-styling reset if you prefer browser-default link underlines) and the generated CSS output updates to include only the groups you've selected.
