Guess a letter
Frequently Asked Questions
How many wrong guesses am I allowed?
Six wrong guesses, matching the traditional hangman drawing stages (head, body, two arms, two legs) — the ASCII drawing fills in one more piece with each incorrect letter, and the game ends if you complete the full figure before guessing the word.
Can I use my physical keyboard instead of clicking letters?
Yes — pressing any A-Z key on your keyboard registers the same guess as clicking the corresponding on-screen button, so you can play entirely without a mouse.
Where do the words come from?
A curated list of programming and computer-science terms (like JAVASCRIPT, ALGORITHM, DATABASE) — this keeps the game on-theme for a developer tools site rather than using a generic dictionary word list.
Does guessing a letter that appears multiple times in the word only count once?
Correct — each letter guess reveals every occurrence of that letter in the word at once, and a repeated guess of the same letter (right or wrong) doesn't count against you again since the keyboard button becomes disabled after first use.
