Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when my entrant count isn't a power of two (like 9 or 13)?

The tool automatically calculates the next power of two large enough to fit everyone, then assigns first-round byes to the top seeds so that every round from round 2 onward has a clean, even number of matches with no unfilled slots.

What order should I enter the names in?

Enter them in seed order (best seed first) if you care about seeding — top seeds are the ones automatically given byes when the bracket needs them, which is the standard tournament convention for rewarding higher seeds.

Can I randomize the seeding instead of using a fixed order?

Yes — check "Randomize seeding" before generating to shuffle the entrant list into a random bracket order instead of using the order you typed them in.

Does this track match results or just generate the initial bracket?

It generates the bracket structure and shows each round's label (Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Final, etc.) and byes, but it doesn't track live results — regenerate a fresh bracket for each new round if you want to advance winners manually.

What size tournaments does this support?

Any number of entrants from 2 upward — for very large entrant counts the tool will still generate all rounds correctly, though the page may require scrolling to see every round's matches.
