How to Use the Tournament Bracket Generator — WebdevToolbox Guide

Build a single-elimination tournament bracket from a list of entrant names, with automatic byes assigned to top seeds when the entrant count isn't a power of two.

Running a single-elimination tournament with a friend group, office ping-pong league, or game night is easy when you have 4, 8, or 16 entrants — but the moment you have an awkward number like 9 or 13, figuring out who gets a “bye” in round one and how the bracket actually shapes up gets fiddly fast.

What Is the Tournament Bracket Generator?

Paste a list of entrant names, one per line, and the tool instantly builds a complete single-elimination bracket — automatically calculating how many byes are needed, assigning them to the top seeds, and labeling each round (Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Final) all the way to the champion.

How to Use It

  1. Open the tool at /tools/tournament-bracket-generator.
  2. Enter your entrants, one per line, in seed order (best seed first).
  3. Optionally check “Randomize seeding” to shuffle the order instead.
  4. Click “Generate bracket” and read the full round-by-round structure.

Key Features

  • Automatic bye calculation for any entrant count — not just powers of two.
  • Top-seed byes, the standard tournament convention for rewarding higher seeds.
  • Round labeling (Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Final) instead of generic “Round N” once the bracket narrows.
  • Optional random seeding for fair, luck-of-the-draw brackets.

When to Use This Tool

  • Organizing an office or club single-elimination tournament with any number of participants.
  • Planning a game night bracket without doing bye math by hand.
  • Understanding how standard tournament seeding and byes work.

Try It Now

Open Tournament Bracket Generator directly, or press ⌘K and type the tool name from anywhere on the site.
