Frequently Asked Questions

How are words placed in the grid?

Each word is placed starting from a random cell in one of eight directions (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, in either direction along each axis), checking that it fits within the grid and doesn't conflict with already-placed letters — longer words are placed first since they have fewer valid positions to fit into, improving the odds all words make it into the puzzle.

What happens if a word doesn't fit?

If a word can't be placed after 200 randomized attempts (usually because the grid is too small for the word list), it's skipped and listed under "Could not fit" — try increasing the grid size or shortening long words to fit them all.

Are the leftover squares random letters?

Yes — every grid cell not used by a placed word is filled with a random letter A-Z, which is what makes finding the actual hidden words a genuine puzzle rather than an obvious pattern.

Can I see where the words are hidden?

Yes — click "Show solution" to highlight every cell used by a placed word in amber, which is useful for checking your own puzzle before printing it, or for generating an answer key alongside the puzzle itself.
