How to Use the Log File Analyzer — WebdevToolbox Guide

Paste nginx, Apache, or JSON logs to parse, filter, and aggregate them client-side.

Scanning through raw server logs line by line to find the requests that matter is slow and error-prone. This tool parses common log formats into a structured table you can filter and sort, without uploading anything to a server.

What Is the Log File Analyzer?

Log File Analyzer is one of the tools in WebdevToolbox’s DevOps category. Paste nginx (combined log format), Apache (common log format), or JSON-lines logs and get a structured, filterable table plus aggregate counts of top status codes and top request paths.

How to Use It

  1. Open the tool at /tools/log-analyzer.
  2. Paste your log lines — format is auto-detected per line.
  3. Use the search box to filter by path or IP, and the status field to filter by response code.
  4. Check the sidebar for top status codes and top paths across all parsed lines.

Key Features

  • Auto-detected format — tries combined log format, then common log format, then JSON-lines, per line.
  • Live filtering — search and status filters update the table instantly.
  • Aggregate panels — top status codes and top paths by frequency, computed from every parsed line (not just the visible rows).
  • Unparsed line tracking — the summary line shows how many lines couldn’t be matched to a known format.
  • 100% client-side — logs never leave your browser, even if they contain IPs or paths you’d rather not upload anywhere.

When to Use the Log File Analyzer

  • Debugging a spike in errors — paste a chunk of logs and immediately see the top status codes.
  • Finding hot paths — spot which endpoints are getting hit hardest without writing a one-off script.
  • Reviewing access patterns — filter by IP or path fragment to trace a specific client’s requests.

Try It Now

Open Log File Analyzer directly from anywhere on the site using ⌘K and typing the tool name. No login required — everything runs offline-capable in your browser.
