How to Use the Word Scrambler — WebdevToolbox Guide

Scramble the letters within each word of your text for word puzzles, anagram games, or 'can you still read this?' demonstrations, with an option to keep first/last letters fixed.

You’ve probably seen the claim that you can read scrambled words as long as the first and last letters stay in place. This tool lets you generate that effect on demand — or go further with a full scramble — for word puzzles, games, or classroom demonstrations.

What Is the Word Scrambler?

Paste your text, and each word gets its letters randomly shuffled — by default keeping the first and last letter fixed for a readable puzzle effect, with punctuation preserved and short words left untouched.

How to Use It

  1. Open the tool at /tools/word-scrambler.
  2. Paste or type your text.
  3. Toggle “keep first and last letter in place” for an easier or harder puzzle.
  4. Set a minimum word length to control which words get scrambled.
  5. Click Re-shuffle for a new random arrangement, or copy the result.

Key Features

  • Keep-ends-fixed option, recreating the classic “still readable” scrambled-word effect.
  • Minimum word length control, so short words stay untouched.
  • Punctuation-safe scrambling, preserving quotes, commas, and periods attached to words.
  • Fresh random shuffle every time you click Re-shuffle.

When to Use This Tool

  • Building a word puzzle or anagram game.
  • Demonstrating reading resilience to letter scrambling for a classroom or presentation.
  • Testing OCR or text-processing robustness against jumbled input.
